Communication Science: Research Master's (Academic)

Would you like to resolve communication challenges in practice rather than just study them? The Research Master’s (Academic track) in Communication Science is a two-year MSc degree programme for students who would like to be at the forefront of the newest developments in understanding the role of communication and media in an applied context.

UvA online Open House

This year, you won’t be able to attend any busy on-campus events with lots of people. But our online Open House is the perfect way to get to know UvA study programmes and university life from the comfort of your own home.

Every study programme has an Open House page with videos, FAQs and live events. On the main Open House website you can discover all our programmes, explore the city and campus, and get inspired during our theme weeks.

Why a Research Master's?

The increasing pervasiveness of media and communication in our lives forms many fascinating challenges. Older notions of media and communication need to be reassessed, the new media environment needs to be charted, and the consequences of the rapid changes in new media and digital technologies need to be understood. This forms the core of the Research Master’s programme in Communication Science.

Hands-on research experience

As a Research Master’s student, you will actively participate in one of the ongoing research projects at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR), the research institute in Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam. This hands-on research training creates a unique opportunity for you to learn from and work closely with leading international scholars. Should you wish to gain even more experience, you can also choose to replace part of your coursework with an optional research internship in an academic or professional research institution.

"With the Research Master’s so many opportunities open up, from a career in academia to jobs in research and analysis for NGOs or in the private sector."
